Is there a Radiologic Technology Program at MGH?
No. Massachusetts General Hospital does not have a Radiologic Technology Program. However, the MGH Radiology Department is a clinical training site for affiliated colleges.


What is the Radiologic Technology program listed on the Partners website?
A 17- month post baccalaureate radiologic technology program is offered through the Institute of Health Professions (IHP), which is a Partners organization. This program is offered on-line with lab and clinical training completed at MGH and other Partners’ affiliates.  For more information on this program: http://www.mghihp.edu


How long will it take to complete my training to become a Radiologic Technologist?
Most community colleges have two-year programs, which require full-time day attendance. Some colleges have three-year part-time evening programs. Also, there are four-year Bachelor of Science programs. The Institute for Health Professions (IHP) offers a 17-month post-baccalaureate program. All programs require students to complete the required competencies established by the ARRT guidelines. 


What is the ARRT?
The American Registry of Radiological Technologists is the national organization that determines what competencies are needed to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist. The ARRT also administers the Registry exam for each imaging (CT, MRI, etc.) modality.


Are there any physical requirements for the job?
Yes. As a technologist, you are required to lift and slide patients of varying weights. In extreme cases, patients who need to be lifted could be comatose or morbidly obese.


Do I have to take a Radiologic Technology course to become an MRI or CT Technologist?
Yes.  Students must satisfactorily complete a Radiology Technology Program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and pass the ARRT Registry exam in order to be employed as Radiologic Technologist.


Are scholarships available?
Yes.  Scholarships are available through Partners. Once you are enrolled in a Radiologic Technology Program, scholarships are also available through the Massachusetts Society of Radiologic Technologists (MSRT) and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). What is the job availability for a Radiologic Technologist and what is the starting pay?
